Business Oregon has approved an expansion of the Deschutes County Rural Enterprise Zone, adding the Sunriver Business Park and Spring River Plaza into the zone.
Janet Burton, La Pine area development manager for Economic Development for Central Oregon, said this ends a process that has been in the works since the beginning of the year. Deschutes County, the city of La Pine and EDCO requested the expansion.
“This is the final step,” Burton said.
The two new areas will add a total of 0.12 square miles, bringing the overall rural enterprise zone to 7.63 square miles, according to EDCO’s news release.
According to the release, the rural enterprise zone, which also encompasses the city of La Pine and Bend Municipal Airport, received its designation in 2008. The zone provides three to 15 years of property tax abatement on plant or equipment investments for any new or expanding non-retail businesses within the zone, provided they invest at least $50,000 in fixed capital improvements and increase their workforces by 10 percent.
