Eugene woman charged with giving son black eye, covering it with makeup

A Eugene woman has been charged with first-degree criminal mistreatment after allegedly giving her son a black eye and covering it with makeup before he went to school.

The woman, 30, was charged Jan. 22, and arraigned Monday morning in Lane County Circuit Court.

To protect the identity of the victim, The Register-Guard is not naming the mother. A probable cause affidavit filed in her case states she refused to answer questions about her son’s injuries, which included a black eye and bruising to his arm. She immediately requested an attorney, the affidavit states.

The injuries allegedly happened Dec. 15, and the boy was kept home from his elementary school the following day. He returned to school Dec. 17 with makeup on his eye, applied by his mother. He told the school counselor his mother had hit him in the face and grabbed his arm, twisting it behind his back because he failed to clean his room.
